Santa Cristina d'Aro, the best of the sea and the mountains

Santa Cristina d'Aro is a small town in the province of Girona. Its unbeatable location by the Mediterranean Sea together with the surrounding landscape make it the ideal place for lovers of the sea and the mountains .

Brief history of Santa Cristina d'Aro

According to archaeological remains, the municipality of Santa Cristina d'Aro has been inhabited since the late Romanization, in the sixth century. After the construction of its parish church during the 10th century, the town center grew.

Santa Cristina d'Aro was part of Castell d'Aro until in the 19th century it was separated to form its own municipality. Thanks to its strategic position and its good connections with different towns such as Sant Feliu de Guíxols or Girona, they have made Santa Cristina d'Aro an important nucleus of Girona's lands.

Neolithic remains of Santa Cristina d'Aro

Among its beautiful landscapes formed by forests of pines, oaks and cork oaks are archaeological remains such as the dolmen of the Cova d'en Daina , in Romanyà de la Selva. This Neolithic monument, located in the heart of the Gavarres Massif , consists of a gallery of houses 7 meters long and a burial chamber .

These natural landscapes offer the possibility of hiking, mountain biking or horse riding . One of the must-see places is the Font Picant , a source of ferruginous and aerated water that can be reached on foot or by bicycle.

The Carrilet Route also passes through Santa Cristina d'Aro , a greenway that runs along the old narrow-gauge railway line and crosses three counties, from Girona to Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
