The municipality of Sant Pere Pescador is located in the heart of the Bay of Rosas, considered one of the most beautiful bays of the Mediterranean Sea, and belongs to the Catalan region of Alt Empordà, in the province of Gerona. The nearest international airport is Gerona-Costa Brava, 52 kilometers away, and the border that separates Spain from France is only 41 kilometers away.

Its location is unique, as it brings together different ecosystems that are part of one of the most emblematic landscapes of the Costa Brava. The combination of the extraordinary nature that surrounds it together with active tourism makes this town a very popular destination to enjoy a stay full of adventures and unforgettable moments throughout the year.

Family tourism in a privileged environment

The historic center of Sant Pere Pescador, with less than 2,000 inhabitants, is on the banks of the Fluvià River. In its narrow streets there are a varied number of stores, bars and restaurants. Highlights include the walled sections of the old medieval fortification next to houses built between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, the green fields of fruit trees (mostly apple trees) on the outskirts and the small marina where the yacht club is located on the river that flows into the sea, with a capacity for 150 moorings.

Away from the crowds and bustle that can often be seen in other parts of the Catalan coast, especially during the summer months, Sant Pere Pescador boasts of being a town that invites tranquility and absolute connection with natural spaces. It is a privileged place for all the members of the families that year after year choose to spend their vacations in Sant Pere Pescador.

The immense beauty of the region has also meant that in recent years buying properties for sale in Sant Pere Pescador has grown considerably. Potential buyers will have plenty of reasons to buy a house in this municipality, because who does not dream of living a few steps from the sea surrounded by protected areas, medieval villages and hospitable people at a reasonable price!

The beach of Sant Pere Pescador

The seaside village of Sant Pere Pescador maintains a perfect balance with the surrounding landscape, particularly with the most coveted hallmark of the town, which is undoubtedly the magnificent beach of Sant Pere Pescador. This shallow beach of fine sand has almost seven kilometers of virgin dunes and is one of the widest of the entire Catalan coast.

Thanks to its natural characteristics and the easterly wind that blows frequently, it has become a reference point for water sports, especially windsurfing and kitesurfing. Sant Pere Pescador hosts important competitions of these two modalities, such as the celebration of world championships. It is also the ideal setting for beginners in this discipline.

In its vicinity there are concentrated most of the holiday accommodations, mainly the seven fully equipped campsites in the municipality. French and northern European travelers, great lovers of camping and very involved with the protection of the environment, often repeat vacations and settle with their motorhomes, camper vans or tents to live a unique experience.

Water sports, bicycle touring and hiking

In addition to windsurfing and kitesurfing in the sea, Sant Pere Pescador offers a wide range of outdoor activities to enjoy with family or friends. In the Fluvià river, kayaking, paddle surfing or sailing in different sailing boats are some of the attractions.

Another must do in the area is to discover the natural park of the Empordà Marshes (Aiguamolls de l'Empordà in Catalan) by bicycle or hiking through the Ruta dels Estanys. This completely flat and circular route is specially designed for families. It is the second most important wetland in Catalonia and is the refuge of more than 300 species of birds that can be seen in the various observatories and viewpoints enabled.

A highly recommended day trip from Sant Pere Pescador is to visit the neighboring town of La Escala, located 15 minutes away by car and where you can visit one of the main ports of the Costa Brava, as well as the Greco-Roman ruins of Ampurias in the neighboring town of San Martin de Ampurias.
