Calella de Palafrugell is one of the most beautiful villages in Spain and on the entire Mediterranean coast. Located in the heart of the emblematic Costa Brava, in the Girona region of Baix Empordà, it has historically been and is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for renowned national and international artists, as well as being one of the most prestigious destinations in the region.

This postcard village has an extraordinary magnetism that instantly attracts and enchants visitors. Many of the lucky ones who visit it every year, mostly from Barcelona and France, are trapped by its incomparable beauty, which has led to the increase in recent years of buying properties for sale in Calella de Palafrugell.

In the summer months, Calella de Palafrugell receives thousands of tourists from all over the world who come in search of its spectacular beaches and coves with crystal clear waters in an incomparable natural and urban environment. However, this seafaring village that has managed to turn its back on mass tourism and still retains all its charm, is a perfect place to live all year round.

In fact, when October arrives, already starting the low season, residents have the feeling that everything is at home and with family, after the long working days of summer. The atmosphere in the narrow cobbled streets of the town is very relaxed. The facades of the beautiful white houses, whose architecture is highly protected, still retain their original beauty to this day.

What to see in Calella de Palafrugell

To admire with a simple and at the same time unforgettable look the attraction of the town, surrounded by its rocky Mediterranean coast and without the presence of large buildings, the most recommended point of interest is the best viewpoint of Calella de Palafrugell, the Punta dels Burricaires.

Located between the beach of Port Pelegrí and the cove of La Platgeta, in this tongue of natural land that goes into the bay, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the historic center of Calella de Palafrugell, the other coves that surround it and the small sailors' boats moored on the sea. Definitely, one of the must-see places in Calella de Palafrugell.

Actually, on board of these fishing and recreational boats anchored in the bay, it is possibly the best location to enjoy an ancient seafaring tradition that takes place in early July in the town, the popular Cantada d'Havaneres de Calella de Palafrugell. With a seductive and leisurely rhythm, the origin of this musical genre comes from Cuba, where in the middle of the 19th century thousands of Catalans emigrated in search of a better future.

The famous Port Bo Beach

The Port Bo beach, located in the center of Calella de Palafrugell, is the most famous beach and the most visited in town. On its thick sand still rest the small and colorful fishing boats. Architecturally, the vaulted arches of the sailors' houses in the area stand out. This is the ideal place to sit and enjoy one of its restaurants with spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea, with the sensational Empordà cuisine such as rice, fish or seafood from the region.

A few steps from Port Bo, on Canadell beach, is located the former residence of the Catalan writer and journalist, Josep Pla, who knew how to describe in his texts the landscapes of the Costa Brava like no other. He was totally in love with Calella de Palafrugell. Another illustrious Catalan artist and singer-songwriter, Joan Manel Serrat, resided for a month at the Batlle HotelHere, he was inspired and composed one of the most legendary songs in Spanish music, "Mediterráneo".
